The Cricket
Founded in 2009
The Cricket of Battle Creek is a craft cocktail bar founded in 2009 with a European design in the heart of beautiful downtown Battle Creek. It boasts the longest cherry wood bar in Michigan at 90 feet long with over 50 craft beers on tap! It has six regulation dart boards and a diverse crowd with something for everyone.
While on the surface, one would readily think that the name The Cricket is derived from the six regulation dart boards or perhaps a reference to the European game of Cricket due to the design of the bar, it is truly much richer in history. The founder of the bar, Jeff Adams, with support from his father, Jim Adams, created a masterpiece.
Jim was a child of the depression and learned early in his childhood how to make money. Jim’s first entrepreneurial foray was selling fishing bait. He acquired old stale loaves of bread, hollowed them out, placed them in a field, and then came back the next morning to find them full of crickets ready to be sold. Jim owned several bars throughout the years and mentored his son Jeff in the trade. When Jeff created his “Grand Opus”, the The Cricket of Battle Creek, he named it such not only for his love of the game of darts, but also as a way to pay homage to his father and mentor.
Jeff has since transitioned from ownership of the The Cricket of Battle Creek and has entrusted his vision to owner Jeremy Kanaga and his family. We’re pleased to have Jeremy and the Kanaga family join us as we continue to offer outstanding customer service in a safe, world class atmosphere. Thank you very much for your patronage!!
